Milk Bottles With a Farmhouse Caddy

Try spray painting your caddy with a color of your choice. When its drys, scrape some paint off with sandpaper for this distressed look.

When cleaning out my mom’s house, I came across a ton of knickknacks….and I mean a lot. That woman singly handily kept HomeGoods in business. One item I couldn’t part with was this dairy bottle and chicken wire caddy. Mason jars are cool and all, but there’s something about these bottles that give a relaxed rustic vibe. These are great for storing nuts, seeds, and any other easy to access kitchen staple. It can also serve as a place to put your makeup brushes in or store household items such as rubber bands and safety pins.

Where can I find them?

There are a lot of options at Amazon or scope them out at your local HomeGoods.

KITU Super Cold Brew Coffee

My boyfriend came home with this when they were out of my usual cold brew coffee, so I made him sleep on the couch. Just kidding. I decided to embrace the change and try it out—total game-changer. I love this brand because it’s not watery and doesn’t give off that weird aftertaste you get from the usual store-bought cold brews. I give this cold brew extra stars for providing a nice boost of caffeine without feeling like your heart is beating out of your chest.

Um, I’m also living for this label, so I’m going to use the bottle as a flower vase once I’ve finished it off.

Where to get your caffeine fix?

This brand is sold at Stop & Shop, Walmart, Target, and other chain food stores, but you can also get it on (you guessed it) Amazon.

Wet n Wild MegaGlo Makeup Stick in Peach Bums

Purchase this from Wet n Wild’s website or visit your local drugstore.

This is making its way to be my all-time favorite blush, and it costs less than $5. I throw this baby on when I don’t want to look like Edward Cullen. I especially love the shimmery tint that compliments my highlighter. A little goes a long way, so this stick will last you a while.

How to apply?

It’s important to remember that the goal is not to look like a Raggedy Ann doll. Blush, in all its glory, is to provide a subtle hint of color that accents your cheekbone and gives you a natural rosy flush.

  1. This is one of the last steps to your makeup routine. Always put ‘your face’ on first.
  2. Smile. Feel that hard bone? That’s your stencil.
  3. Place your pointer finger at the side of your mouth and along the laugh line to show you where the blush should end.
  4. Starting from your pointer finger, apply blush lightly to the apples of your cheeks and stop where the bone (hardness) ends.
  5. Use your fingers or a makeup brush to blend.
  6. If you went too far wipe it off and start over. Nah, you can just blot it with a tissue.

OPI Nail Polish in Chiffon-d of You

I am all about dark nail colors for fall, but it becomes very noticeable when they chip. If you’re anything like me, it takes only a few seconds after leaving the nail salon before you’ve smudged your nails digging for your car keys.

I wanted a polish light enough that you couldn’t see chips but bright and fun enough to give my nails some extra pizazz during these cooler months. This polish has a pearly pink glow to it but isn’t completely translucent. The opacity changes with each coat you add, depending on the look you are going for. It’s also a color that is complementary to silver, gold, and rose gold jewelry.

You can purchase this polish virtually anywhere online for under $10.

Trader Joe’s Lavender Salt Scrub

If you go to Trader Joe’s and neglect the personal care aisle, then you’re doing yourself a disservice. There is a great selection of affordable and simple products that are worth exploring once you find your way out of the cheese section. I will admit some products are better than others; however, I highly suggest TJ’s Rose Water Facial Toner and Ultra Hydrating Gel Moisturizer.

My most recent find was the Lavender Salt Scrub. This product leaves your skin INCREDIBLY soft which is especially key in winter months when your skin starts to get dry and rough.

Do I sense a collab?

If you’re a runner or work on your feet all day, try rubbing some of the salt on your soles and scrub them with a pumice stone. The achiness will be gone in seconds!

3 Healthy Smoothies That Don’t Disappoint

3 Healthy Smoothies That Don’t Disappoint

Quick Tips to Get You Started

  1. Smoothies are best served cold, so if you’re not using frozen fruit, then make sure to add some ice. I prefer crushed ice, but if you’re a solid cube kind of chick, then do you, boo.
  2. Go easy on the liquid base, then add more if needed. You want your smoothie to be thick so you can savor every minute of it.
  3. Spices and snacksessories are essential. Adding spices like cinnamon and nutmeg give your smoothie more flavor without breaking the calorie bank (if that’s your concern). Not to mention, cinnamon has been linked to increasing metabolism. Don’t be afraid to add nuts, seeds, or other additives. Instead of worrying about calorie intake, focus on food that helps keep you full, and adds nutritional benefits. Some of my favorite snacksessories are flax seeds, chia seeds, matcha powder, MCT oil, and collagen powder.

1. Pumpkin Butter Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tsp of pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 small apple (preferably red)
  • 1 banana
  • A dash of cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp of mixed nut butter
  • 1/2 cup of pumpkin or pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt or vanilla protein powder

Instructions

Put all the ingredients in a blender on medium speed. Put liquid ingredients in first, or you will be standing there for a while watching the blender try with all his might to get the pumpkin to liquify.

Wait, what is mixed nut butter?

It’s only the ‘Bambino’ of nut butters from our trusted friends at Trader Joe’s. The ingredients contain almonds, cashew nuts, walnuts, brazil nuts, hazelnuts, pecans, and sea salt. That’s it! No additives in this guy, but fair warning that it’s highly addicting.

2. Coconut Strawberry Cacao Smoothie

Cacao chips are not sweet like chocolate chips, so you won’t feel the urge to pick at them when you’re prepping your smoothie.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1 tbsp of cacao chips or cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp of coconut flakes
  • 1 cup of strawberries
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 serving of chocolate protein powder
  • 1/4 cup of plain greek yogurt

Instructions

  1. Put all the ingredients in a blender on low speed to get a thick consistency (save some cacao and coconut flakes for the topping).
  2. Top it off with coconut flakes and cacao chips.

Want an Instagram approved smoothie pic?

Melt some cacao chips in a pan on the stove for a few seconds, drizzle the melted chocolate on the sides of your cup with a spoon, and watch the ‘likes’ pour in.

3. Strawberry Sunrise Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup of plain greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp of flax seeds
  • 1/2 cup of pineapple
  • 1/2 cup of mango
  • 1/2 cup of peaches
  • 1/2 cup of strawberries

Instructions

  1. Put all the ingredients except the strawberries in a blender on medium speed.
  2. Add additional water for a thinner consistency if needed.
  3. Pour 2/3 of the mixture into a glass.
  4. Add the strawberries to the remaining mixture and blend.
  5. Top off your smoothie with the strawberry mixture.

Feel free to swap the strawberries for blueberries, raspberries, or cherries instead. Make it your own!

Why don’t you provide calorie count or nutritional information?

We tend to get hung up on calories and carb counting that we hone in on what we need to avoid rather than focusing on what our bodies need to thrive. Including real food in our diet that contains fiber, healthy fats, and protein will provide you with vitamins and nutrients to give you energy and keep you from crawling back to the fridge. Do your research. Fruit sugar is not the same as refined sugar, so don’t be overwhelmed by fruit quantity in these smoothies.

5 Ways to Go Bold This Fall

5 Ways to Go Bold This Fall

1. Give Your Wing an Ombre

Adding some flare to your eyeliner is a great way to turn it up a notch, which requires minimal effort. Grab your eyeliner, a thin (preferably angled) makeup brush, your brightest eyeshadows (metallic and shimmery work best), and start creating. Draw your wing on the lid and let it dry. You will then use the brush to apply 2-3 colors of eyeshadow along the line. Don’t forget to blend where the colors meet!

Want to experiment when you’re on a budget? The Multi-Color Shimmer Palette by Morphe is perfect for creating multiple looks.

A word of wisdom: Always test the colors on your hand. You did not just spend eight minutes perfecting your wing to have to start all over when the color doesn’t come out the way you hoped.

On the first two tests in the picture featured, I am using the same eyeshadows. The only difference is that I used a white eyeliner as the base in the first test instead of black to make the colors come out pink and champagne.

If you’re not ready to dive into the colors of the rainbow try a dark shimmery eyeshadow or liner that is close to your eye color. In the fourth test I used a green shade to match my eyes see product below).

2. Add a Pop of Color to Prints and Stripes

You went out of your comfort zone and bought that leopard print skirt, so why not just embrace the wild and add more color?

When accessorizing, wear a belt the same color as your shoes to bring the look full circle.

When I’m strolling the boardwalk for real and not posing like I’ve just spotted Mr. Softee, I swap out the black boots for a pair of white sneakers.

This outfit is also great for a fun brunch (mask included) or if you’re going to Home Depot with your boyfriend and get easily lost. He will find you, I promise.

Fun fact: Vertical stripe patterns down each side of your pants make your legs appear longer.

For those who are not ready to part with your yoga pants – I feel you, girl. You can still dress up your sweats without looking like an Olsen twin.

Styling a tighter fit cropped sweater with striped leggings says ‘dressy,’ not ‘messy.’

These white sneakers are my go-to shoes lately. If you’re carefree like I am (aka you’re a walking advertisement for tide pens), then you probably don’t want to spend a pretty penny on these babies.

There are tons of affordable white sneakers out there that won’t break the bank:

3. Ditch the Black Blazer for Something Brighter

Ah, the days of wearing blazers and putting on real clothes for work. How nostalgic. Don’t let your blazer collect dust this Fall. Style with a white tee and stand out at your next Zoom meeting (unless you forgot to start working on that project and need to lay low. In that case, turn off your camera and make sure to remind everyone your wifi has been acting up).

FYI: Jeans and sneakers make the look a little less profesh if you do decide to break free from your WFH yoga pants. I like to call that look ‘Business on the top, fitness on the bottom.’

Looking for inspiration? Try pairing with an accessory that is a shade close to your blazer on the color wheel. Think bright orange earrings with a red blazer.

4. Pin it Up with a Colorful Hairpin

You guessed it. Ya girl was rocking butterfly clips on the daily in her youth. Safe to say that some things never change. I am a huge fan of hair accessories because it means I can cover my unwashed hair (#godblessdryshampoo) and because they are an affordable and chic way to make a fashion statement. These clips from Amazon cost me $8.99. They come in six different colors and two shapes per color. I prefer more massive clips for my more enormous dome, but go with what fits your noggin best.

5. Rock Solid Red Booties

These shoes are giving me “there’s no place like home” vibes (not like we’re venturing outside much most of these days).

Don’t be afraid to pair your red kicks with something other than black and white. I styled my red booties with a schoolgirl skirt, boyfriend jean jacket, and apparently RBF.

Mix it up! Remember the color wheel? If you’re feeling dangerous, rock these with dark skinny jeans and a hot pink sweater like I was wearing above.
